Atlanta city councilman Michael Julian Bond wants the Governor to consider changes to the relief sculpture on Stone Mountain.

Bond tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the three Confederate generals shouldn't be sandblasted off. But he says other historical figures should be added, such as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr or former president Jimmy Carter.

Yesterday, the city council passed a resolution, asking Gov. Deal to appoint a study committee on changes to Stone Mountain.

A spokesman for Deal declined comment, since the Governor has yet to see the proposal.
