Authorities are practicing how to respond to a hurricane in Coastal Georgia today and tomorrow.

About 100 personnel from state, local, and volunteer agencies will run through the key steps to take in case a hurricane makes landfall in the area. They’ll use large maps and models to lay out available resources.

Authorities are also encouraging the public to take part in a “points of distribution” exercise. They’ll hand out water, tarps, and other emergency supplies.

Officials in Atlanta this week are reviewing how to handle hurricane response and evacuation in long-term care facilities.

Hurricane season begins June 1.
