Grady ambulance

A stolen ambulance outside an Atlanta hospital led to a police chase in the suburbs, ending in a crash and a police dog tracking down the suspect.

Police say the ambulance was at Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta -- its engine running -- around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Police tell WXIA-TV that a suspect jumped in and drove away.

Atlanta police Capt. Terrell Griffin says the hospital used a GPS device to track the ambulance, which entered Cobb County -- where police chased it -- before heading back into Atlanta.

Police say the suspect crashed into a light pole in Atlanta and then ran, stripping off his clothes as he fled.

Griffin said a police dog sniffed out the clothing and tracked the suspect to an apartment complex, where he was apprehended.
