Savannah Music Festival

Community advocate Mahogany Bowers of Blessings in a Bookbag and fashion editor Ashley Borders of South Magazine offer up some ways to have a fun weekend in Savannah.

Ashley’s picks:

-The Savannah Music Festival kicks off Thursday and continues through April 4, with a full schedule of concerts and shows at venues around town. Friday and Sunday will bring the festival’s first foray into opera with Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi at the Lucas Theatre. Be sure to buy tickets for any shows you want to see early, as they often sell out. Full schedule and tickets here.

-Travel through the woods and meet the big bad wolf with the Savannah Children’s Theater’s production of Little Red Riding Hood at Crossroads Shopping Center this weekend and next. Friday, 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m.; $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, military and children.

-This month’s Savannah Bazaar is coming up Saturday, now at Ampersand. Enjoy live music and grab a bite to eat while you shop local artists during the day, then head upstairs for more music and art at the Upstairs After Market. Saturday, Bazaar 1-6 p.m., After Market 9 p.m.

-Get a prom dress at a discount - and for a cause - with the Rape Crisis Center’s House of Prom at the Savannah Mall on Saturday. For each $10 donation to the Rape Crisis Center, you can take home an elegant gown, many of which are major designer labels. You can also donate your lightly used prom dress, bridesmaid’s dress or ball gown through Friday at the Savannah Mall or Colorboxx Salon locations. Saturday, 10 a.m.; $10 donation.

Mahogany’s picks:

-The Florence will continue its “Movies and Meatballs” series on Sunday with another Tarantino film: “Inglorious Basterds.” Enjoy the Nazi-hunting World War II flick along with the Florence’s signature gourmet cuisine. Sunday, 5-10 p.m.

-Registration is open for a number of unusual arts classes through the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs. Classes include a teen jewelry class, metalsmithing and enameling. Savannah residents get a discount on registration. Find details here.
