You probably have a picture in mind when you think of a music conservatory. Names like Juilliard and Berklee, northeastern schools in seriously urban settings. But further south, in the deep south, the McDuffie Center for Strings is fighting for a share of the spotlight. Trevor Young, a student journalist with the Mercer University Center for Collaborative Journalism, caught up with players from McDuffie last week as they prepared for a concert in New York City.
