Former Seattle Seahawks defensive coach Dan Quinn

A person familiar with the negotiations says Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has agreed to a five-year deal to become the Atlanta Falcons coach.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal has not been publicly announced by the team.
The Falcons are expected to introduce Seattle's defensive coordinator as their coach on Tuesday.

The Falcons exercised patience while waiting for Quinn, who could not be offered a job until after Seattle's 28-24 Super Bowl loss Sunday night to the New England Patriots.

The 44-year-old Quinn helped lead Seattle reach back-to-back Super Bowls. Seattle beat Denver in last year's championship.

Quinn will replace Mike Smith, who was fired following a 6-10 finish in 2014.
