Math Teacher

The Georgia Department of Education is asking for public input on proposed changes to math classes. If the plan is approved, high schools would be able to offer two kinds of math courses.

Schools would keep the current, integrated approach, which combines math disciplines like algebra and geometry into one course of study. They would also offer the option of traditional math courses, with each discipline taught separately.

In a statement, Superintendent Richard Woods says parents and teachers have expressed concerns about integrated math. Surveys found many preferred a choice.

The proposal is open for public comment online through February 13.
