The sheriff in a highly populated Georgia county is seeking funding for 100 body cameras for his deputies.

The Telegraph reports that Bibb County Sheriff David Davis is seeking funding for 100 cameras in the fiscal 2016 budget, which would take effect in July.

Davis said he thinks cameras can be a valuable tool, but he also wants to develop a sound policy for their use and evaluate the types of cameras on the market.

Other Georgia departments using or considering body cameras include police in Powder Springs and Gainesville and the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

The Telegraph reports that the Houston County Sheriff's Office has been researching the cameras, and Warner Robins police have been testing them for school resource officers.

Meanwhile Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says Atlanta Police have launched a pilot program adopt body cameras too.
