Federal prosecutors say a hospice care provider has agreed to pay more than $500,000 to resolve a false claims settlement.

Authorities said Tuesday that Serenity Hospice Care of Dublin and one of its affiliate corporations have agreed to pay the government $581,000 to settle claims that it submitted false claims to the Medicare program for patients who weren't eligible for hospice care under Medicare regulations.

Prosecutors say the settlement is the result of a whistleblower lawsuit and the person who came forward with the information will receive a share of the settlement proceeds.
