Fort Stewart soldiers are preparing to deploy to Liberia with the task of helping to contain the spread of Ebola.

Early next month 32 soldiers from the 82nd Civil Affairs Battalion will act as liaisons between the military and government organizations worldwide, as a part of Operation United Assistance. The U.S. governmental agency assists in disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.

Battalion commander Lt. Kernel Joe Malizia, says protocol has not yet been determined for re-integrating the soldiers when they return to the US. "We¹re waiting for further guidance from the joint force commander as to the exact procedures associated with the integration."

The Army recently required all soldiers returning from West Africa to undergo a 21 day quarantine or enhanced monitoring.

Soldiers say they will not come in close contact with any Ebola patients.
