Award-Winning Journalist Bradley George
Named Senior Anchor/ Correspondent

Award-winning journalist Bradley George has been named Senior Anchor/Correspondent for Georgia Public Broadcasting. Among his responsibilities, George will serve as the local host for the immensely popular program Morning Edition from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., helping GPB Radio listeners in Atlanta and all across Georgia start their day.

George comes to GPB from WPLN-FM in Nashville, where he’s been waking up Morning Edition listeners since 2011. In addition to hosting the morning show, George has reported on everything from Nashville's booming real estate market to country singer Jim Reeves' popularity in India. The Tennessee Associated Press awarded George Best Radio Interview and Best Radio Newscast distinctions in 2014 and Best Political Coverage in 2013.

Before joining WPLN, he served as afternoon news host and reporter at WBHM-FM, the public radio station based in Birmingham, Alabama. He also served as executive producer of the station’s award-winning weekly arts and culture program Tapestry and contributed stories to NPR. In 2011, George was part of a team of reporters who won multiple awards for coverage of a massive tornado outbreak that killed more than 250 Alabamians. In addition, he was part of the WBHM team that produced a series called Gay/Straight in Alabama, about growing up gay in the Deep South. The series and the companion call-in program won multiple awards including Best Call-in Program from the Public Radio News Directors Inc. (PRNDI).

George began his radio career as a host and producer at WFDD in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he won numerous awards for his work. George is a native of North Carolina and graduate of Guilford College with a degree in Theatre and German Studies.

“I look forward to calling Atlanta home for many years to come,” George says. “I can't wait to dig in and tell all the stories that Atlanta and Georgia have to offer. GPB is an incredible organization full of talented people, and I'm eager to be part of it.”

In addition to serving as the local host for Morning Edition, George will also contribute stories to GPB’s newest original television series On the Story, as well as gpb.org and engage with viewers and listeners through social media.

“Bradley is that unique kind of journalist who’s equally comfortable holding a politician’s feet to the fire and covering the music scene. We’re going to see great things from him!” says Tanya Ott, GPB Vice President of Radio.

Respected across the state and industry circles, GPB has been long hailed as an innovative public media leader. Recent recognition for the statewide network includes winning the 2014 Atlanta Press Club Award for Best Radio Reporting and the 2014 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Writing from the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). GPB’s Savannah radio station WSVH 91.1 was just named “Best Talk Radio Station” by the publication Connect Savannah. In addition, GPB won 14 Southeastern Emmy Awards during this month’s awards ceremony.

George will begin hosting Morning Edition in July. The popular program airs weekday mornings from 5-9 a.m. across GPB’s statewide 19-station radio network and will be a part of the programming lineup for WRAS 88.5 FM in the Atlanta market.
