The ousted CEO of Medient Studios in Savannah is suing the film company and asking a judge to dissolve it.

In a lawsuit filed Monday in Nevada's Second Judicial District Court, Manu Kumaran asks a Nevada judge to dissolve the corporation; appoint a receiver to settle the company’s affairs; and issue an injunction preventing Medient from conducting business. The suit accuses Medient’s current leadership of fraud and “gross mismanagement."

In the complaint, Kumaran says he invested $15 million in Medient in exchange for a controlling interest in the company, before he was forced out on June 9.

The suit also says that Kumaran testified before the Securities and Exchange Commission in May, the month before the shakeup at Medient.

Medient is based in Savannah with plans to build a multi-million-dollar studioplex in neighboring Effingham County.

Kumaran filed the suit in Nevada’s Second Judicial District Court because the company was incorporated in Nevada.

Kumaran and his attorney are declining to comment.

A spokesperson for Medient was not immediately available for comment.
