The U.S. Veterans Administration is opening a larger community-based outpatient clinic in Oakwood, allowing some veterans in northeast Georgia to get their treatment closer to home.

The new 18,000-square-foot clinic recently opened off Thurmon Tanner Parkway.

In addition to a population surge over the years, officials say the Hall County area has seen a spike in the number of aging veterans who need care.
