Lawsuit Filed Over Deadly Fort Benning Crash

Relatives of an Army helicopter pilot are suing over the crash that killed the man at Fort Benning in 2011.

The federal lawsuit was filed by the family of 37-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Steven B. Redd.

Redd and another soldier died when the helicopter crashed at Fort Benning on Aug. 8, 2011.

The wrongful death lawsuit claims the AH-6M Little Bird helicopter was unsafe. It names manufacturer Boeing Co. and numerous other companies that supplied parts for the helicopter.

The suit was filed in Connecticut because each of the corporations named in the lawsuit is licensed to do business there. It doesn't seek a specific amount of money.

The family of the other man killed in the crash, Capt. John D. Hortman, previously filed suit.
