WORKING: Reveal Your Potential

Updated: 1 year ago.
Often, the people around us and our managers see the work we’ve done before and figure that’s what we know. They miss our “potential” – all the things we could accomplish for the organization. Brandon Smith says helping others see that potential really comes down to marketing. (Photo Courtesy of Michael Lokner via Flickr.)

Perception is everything, right? Sometimes that works in our favor because someone sees our best qualities and all that we are capable of.

But more often, people – and our managers – see the work we’ve done before and figure that’s what we know. They miss our “potential.”

Brandon Smith says helping others see our potential (and all that we might accomplish) really comes down to marketing.

Brandon Smith teaches about leadership, communication, and workplace culture at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. More of his advice is on his blog and at theworkplacetherapist.com. While you’re there, ask him your workplace or career question. We might answer you in a future radio segment.
