A new publications policy has been implemented at Georgia Regents University following a controversy over altered photos of student athletes.
Photos of student athletes were altered in an attempt to avoid confusion about the school's recent name change. The school was formed after Augusta State and Georgia Health Sciences University merged. School logos were removed from athletes' shirts and jerseys in photos that were included in about 5,000 promotional books.
University President Ricardo Azziz issued a statement taking responsibility for the photos, saying the alterations showed insensitivity to the history of the two schools.
Future university publications will be handled by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
David Brond, senior vice president of communications and marketing told the Augusta Chronicle the publication was produced by an outside agency.
