Georgia State University has banned smoking and tobacco use on most of its campus.

The University Senate took the action last week for the Atlanta campus. Tobacco use will be prohibited on all university owned or leased locations, indoors and outdoors, in garages and parking lots and in all college owned or leased vehicles.

Officials say university housing will allow limited smoking and tobacco use in some designated outside areas.

About a dozen colleges in Georgia and more than 600 colleges nationwide have campus smoking bans.
