WORKING: Picking Sides

Updated: 2 years ago.
When managers and supervisors get in feuds with each other, their staff is often caught in the middle. Some people will choose sides. Others try to stay neutral. Our workplace expert Brandon Smith says you probably can’t stay out of the politics, so you have two ways to deal with the situation. (Photo Courtesy of Muriel Miralles de Sawicki via stock.xchng.)

Sometimes it feels like the battle lines are drawn at work. This manager is feuding with that supervisor and the rest of us are caught in the middle.

Dealing with that turmoil is the subject of a listener question for our workplace expert Brandon Smith.

Brandon Smith teaches about leadership, communication, and workplace culture at Emory University's Goizueta Business School. More of his advice is on his blog and at theworkplacetherapist.com. While you’re there, ask him your workplace or career question. We might use your question on a future radio segment.
