A new healthcare center is opening in Dalton.

The Dalton Community Center will house the facility.

Funding for the project comes from a state grant and the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership, a local non-profit.

Dalton Mayor David Pennington says it will serve a widespread need in his community.

“Everybody knows how depressed the carpet industry has been here because of the depressed building industry and the first thing people lose a lot of times as they lose their jobs is their health care.”

Pennington says operational funding will depend on a combination of grants, a sliding scale fee schedule and increased Medicaid funding.

The center’s grand opening is scheduled for August 7th.
