City commissioners in Albany are asking the city manager to consider a budget measure that would give the Flint RiverQuarium $150,000 to help it operate.

City Manager James Taylor's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1 didn't include funding for the downtown educational and tourist attraction.

RiverQuarium CEO Sanders Lewellen asked the commission this week to consider the funds to help with expenses in what has been a tough time for fund-raising.

Lewellen said the attraction has cut its budget by more than $341,000 but challenges remain.

The RiverQuarium is on the banks of the Flint River. Its exhibits tells the story of the river and the blue hole springs that helped create it.
