Gov. Nathan Deal's non-election year campaign fundraising total topped $2.4 million last year, according to his latest campaign finance report filed with the state ethics commission.

The total for Deal, now in his second year in office, includes more than $630,000 for the six-month period ending Dec. 31. According to the report dated Jan. 9, he still has more than $850,000 in cash on hand.

Deal was elected in 2010, and is up for re-election in 2014. The former congressman and judge has deep political roots in Georgia, including 12 years in the state Senate.
