Coming off a dominant showing at the Gwinnett County Championships, the Brookwood boys at least ran into some competition at last Saturday’s Atlanta Classic, hosted by Chapel Hill High School. Without top runner Morgan Malanoski, the Broncos held off St. Pius X by a narrow margin of 89 points to 96. Gabriel Gomez crossed the line sixth overall for Brookwood in 16:10, three places and five seconds ahead of teammate Austin Veith. The Golden Lions were led by fifth-place Austin Sprague (16:01) and seventh-place Calvin Tirrell (16:11). Bailey Roth of Eagle’s Landing won the race in 15:52, edging Adam Jones of Columbus by three seconds. ... The Westminster girls raced away with a 30-point win over runner-up Parkview. The Wildcats were led by Michelle Sullivan—ninth overall in 19:57—and Martha Stewart Fuqua—12th overall in 20:12. Victoria Coppage of First Presbyterian took home top individual honors with a time of 18:50, eight seconds faster than Landmark Christian’s Lindy Long. … The Pope boys beat host Blessed Trinity in a thrilling race at last Saturday’s Clash of the Titans. The Greyhounds compiled 47 points to the Titans’ 51 behind Justin Howell’s first-place finish in 17:35. Will Murray of Blessed Trinity was second by a mere 28-hundreths of a second. The Lady Titans took care of their home turf with an amazing score of 25 points. They placed five runners in the top 10, including Bailey Willett in second place and Natalie Kile in fourth. Dawson County’s Madalyn Walters was first overall with a time of 20:24. … The Fulton County Public Schools Championship will take place this Saturday at Webb Bridge Park in Alpharetta. Attending teams include Alpharetta, Chattahoochee, Milton, Northview, Riverwood and Roswell. Saturday’s Westover Invitational will feature Lovett, Lowndes, McEachern, Pace Academy and St. Pius X.
