The Georgia Department of Agriculture wants farmers to check their chemical inventory and reports any shortages to police.

The call for vigilance comes in anticipation of the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks Sunday.

Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black says some fertilizers, like ammonium nitrate, are ingredients for explosives.

“It’s a safe fertilizer. It’s something we’ve used for a long, long time and it’s very important to agriculture. Some people unfortunately use that as a tool to mean harm to other people.”

Black says no specific threats have been made in Georgia.
