The plan will burn up to 1.2 million tons of wood bark, chips and other biomass annually. It will provide electricity and also steam for an existing paper mill.The developers say they are finalizing a 20-year agreement to sell electricity to Georgia Power.
Company officials say the project will create up to 150 construction jobs, 55 permanent jobs and support around 200 logging and forestry positions.
