The southern two-thirds of Georgia are in deep drought. State officials want people to watch when they water.

In June of 2009 state officials declared Georgia’s last drought over. That relieved emergency watering restrictions and reservoirs grew to full levels.

But some limits on watering are still in effect. The so-called “odd-even” rule still applies to other outdoor watering like washing a car. That means it’s allowed on odd or even days based on street number.

A new state law does allow yard watering every day between 4:00 pm and 10:00 am. State Climatologist David Stooksbury says plants are suffering.

“I’ve seen a tremendous amount of stress on azaleas and dogwoods. Both of those are very shallow rooted plants and so they are also starting to show a tremendous amount of stress.”

So far, no new watering restrictions are in place.
