Bacterial Disease Cause Of Ogeechee Fish Kill

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division says a fish kill in the Ogeechee River was caused by a bacterial disease called columnaris.
The EPD says the disease was induced by environmental stress and that people are not known to be affected by it.
The EPD says the origin of the problem is not known and is continuing to advise people in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham and Screven counties not to swim in or consume fish from the Ogeechee River until further notice.
Environmental and wildlife organizations and emergency management agencies say they continue to investigate the fish kill and water quality issues in the river.
