On Friday 2-thousand people arrive in Macon for the Georgia Republican Party’s State Convention. The gathering will include speeches by two presidential candidates and a contentious election for party chairman.

Incumbent party chair Sue Everhart wants to serve a third term. One of her challengers is Tricia Pridemore who’s endorsed by Governor Nathan Deal. Political columnist Tom Crawford with the Georgia Report says it’s tough to predict the outcome because party delegates tend to vote independently.

“If they vote against the governor’s choice for party chair then of course that will be interpreted as a slap in the face of Governor Nathan Deal.”

Fulton County GOP Chair Shawn Hanley is the third candidate for state chair. Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich addresses the group Friday evening while candidate Herman Cain speaks to the group on Saturday.
