Athens-Clarke County officials said Friday they are canceling the annual Fourth of July fireworks display because they could not find enough sponsors.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported the county government has raised only $4,500 of the $10,000 needed to put on the annual fireworks show.

Athens-Clarke Manager Alan Reddish told the paper the deadline for purchasing the fireworks in time for the Fourth of July passed Sunday.
