Dodge County leaders are refusing to take down a Confederate flag that flies at the county courthouse. The NAACP wants it removed.

Sixty people stood before the county commission Tuesday requesting that the members reconsider their April decision to fly the flag year-round. It was only supposed to be up on Confederate Memorial Day, but it’s been flown non-stop since 2003.

Edward Dubose with the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP says the flag is a symbol of racism:

“We shall go back to Dodge County next month with an all out protest, and we’re going to gradually elevate those steps. We’ll see where it goes.”

Dubose says the national NAACP has approved a boycott of Dodge County if commissioners do not reconsider. But, he hopes that will not be necessary.
