The NAACP and Tea Party in Rome are coming together to hold a political candidate forum on Thursday. The unlikely union came out of a scheduling conflict when both groups planned to hold forums on the same day and location.

Mike Morton, with the Tea Party suggested he and Alvin Jackson with the NAACP co-sponsor the forum.

Jackson says the state NAACP chapter supports the efforts..

“I think people are beginning to understand that this is merely an information forum. It gets the people interested in the election. A lot of people were concerned at first about the local Tea Party and the NAACP coming together but this is merely for their advantage to get as much information as they possibly can.”

While there has been opposition, both leaders have high expectations for the forum.
