Elections officials in Albany are considering adding a day to give more people a chance to go to the polls.

The Dougherty County Board of Elections plans to decide in the next few days whether to add voting on Saturdays. Seven other Georgia counties including Coweta, Fulton and Muscogee, already have it.

Any change would have to be quickly approved by the U.S. Department of Justice. Alan Pendleton is with the Dougherty County Board of Elections. He says it could also come down to money.

“The only thing that really gets in the way of things is will your county give you the funds required to provide the personnel and equipment and everything else to do it in that time frame.”

Elections officials in Albany say turnout for absentee voting has been strong so far.
