The FBI has released Georgia’s 2009 crime statistics, and the numbers are generally positive. The reports shows violent crime dropped nearly 12 percent from 2008 to 2009. The drop mirrors a decline throughout the South and nationwide. However, homicides did rise in Augusta.

An Augusta Chronicle analysis shows over the weekend Richmond County counted its 26th homicide for the year, which was the murder rate for all of last year.
