Governor Roy Barnes easily won the Democratic Nomination last night.

He took to the stage at an Atlanta hotel and immediately started blaming the Republican controlled legislature for focusing on inconsequential bills.

“We have become known as the state that can prohibit microchips, allow you to eat your road kill and seriously consider seceding from the Union," he joked to supporters.

Barnes was very supporting of teachers in his speech. He said he learned his lesson 8 year ago when he lost his re-election bid, partially due to teachers voting against him over education reforms he’d implemented.

Now he says he'll be on their side.

"And this marks the end of teacher furloughs, larger classrooms. This is the end of building fish ponds and not paying teachers," he told a cheering crowd.

It was a stab at Governor’s Perdue’s "Go Fish" Program to enhance tourism.

Barnes says he’ll also make sure to campaign more in rural areas this time around.
