Governor Sonny Purdue and Regents Chancellor Errol B. Davis were among those who attended the signing ceremony.

It marked the joining of MCG its hospital system and physicians practice group under a single governing body.

Heading up the new board is MCG's new President Dr. Ricardo Aziz.

Though, officially, it was only his first day on the job Aziz played a large role in the consolidation effort.

"I want to thank all of you for the opportunity of leading this," said Aziz. "I’ve only been on the job for 9 hours or so but it’s been actually a very exciting 3 months working with very dedicated individuals."

A decade ago MCG’s struggling hospital prompted the Board of Regents to create separate governing bodies for each of the three branches.
