Georgia Senators: Kagan Will Face Tough Questions

ATLANTA  —   Georgia Senator’s Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson will be among Republicans grilling Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan at her confirmation hearing. Senator Isakson, who is running for re-election this Fall, is critical of Kagan for her role in limiting military recruiter’s access to the campus of Harvard Law when she was dean. He says he hasn’t made up his mind about her nomination.

"When she was nominated for solicitor general, in the end, I did not support that nomination for confirmation purposes but I will not pre-judge her until we have a second meeting…or our first meeting on Supreme Court appointment," Isakson said.

In a statement, Senator Chambliss said that Supreme Court nominees should not engage in legislation from the bench and that he looks forward to a thorough confirmation process. Kagan currently serves as the country’s top litigator but has never been a judge
