This week Congress could vote on a Senate Health Care Bill. All of Georgia’s Republican Representatives are voting against it, but the results are mixed when it comes to the Democrats.
Democratic Congressman Jim Marshall is a firm no. According to The Hill newspaper John Barrow is a likely no as well. David Scott is leaning yes, Hank Johnson and John Lewis are a definite yes, and Sanford Bishop is undecided and may vote no unless language is removed from the bill providing public funding for abortion.
Bill Hervey teaches health care law at Macon State College. He says politicians have a lot to consider before they decide how to vote.
“Don’t make a mistake about this. They’re listening every day to their constituents and while they have to be good in Washington, they also have to get re-elected to stay there.”
Hervey says the bill needs 216 votes to pass and at this point the Democrats appear to be a few votes short.
