As the state looks at cutting 300-million dollars to higher education, students at all 35 public colleges and universities across the state are using social media to plan a massive protest at the State Capitol.
University System of Georgia Students for Quality Education appeared as a facebook group less than a week ago. It already has close to 6-thousand members and its numbers are growing by the hour.
University of Georgia student body President Katie Barlow helped organize the group. She says they’re using it to link to an online petition and share information about a rally they’re planning at the State Capitol on March 15th.
“It all comes down to us, and yes it is about jobs and yes it is about staff and faculty and yes it is about the money and yes it is about the state, but most importantly and most fundamentally it’s about the students.”
Barlow says students attending the rally will put a face to the cuts. Representatives from every school plan to attend.
