Next week members of Georgia's 48th Brigade will begin coming home from Afghanistan. The first group to return will be the 118th Field Artillery Unit from Savannah. They're expected to arrive at Fort Stewart on Tuesday.
The remainder of the National Guard troops will return home in waves through March and April. Many have been in Afghanistan helping train police and security personnel for a year.
Last week five of the Brigade's soldiers were injured in a suicide bombing near the Pakistan border. Eight soldiers have died during this deployment.
