A water task force says the state shouldn’t shift water from one river basin to the next as it seeks alternative water sources for Atlanta.

A final report from the Governor’s Water Contingency Task Force says the state should instead work to expand existing reservoirs and upgrade aging water infrastructure.

Interbasin water transfers have been panned by environmentalists and shunned by rural residents worried Atlanta could interfere with their water supply.

A federal judge's ruling could cut Atlanta off from Lake Lanier-- its main water supply.
