Georgians who want to buy more energy efficient appliances could get up to $1,200 dollars in rebates. The state got millions of federal stimulus dollars for the program.

Starting February 12, people in Georgia who buy big appliances with energy star ratings can get some money back.

It’s up to $199 for a water heater… and $50 for a refrigerator.

The U.S. Department of Energy spent $9 million to set up the program in the state.

Those who want to take advantage must apply on line or call a toll free number after buying the appliance.

The program is limited to one type of appliance per household, but a household can get rebates on several different kinds of appliances, up to $1200.

State officials anticipate the program will be popular and advise confirming the availability of funds once the program rolls out by going to www.GeorgiaRebate.com or calling (866) 296-1633.
