Officials with the Corrections Corporation of America will be on hand at a public meeting to discuss the possibility of a new state prison facility that might be coming to Millen.

That company is one of a few that submitted bids to the state for the job of constructing and operating a new 1,000-bed prison.

Jenkins County has the highest unemployment rate in the state and the new facility could bring hundreds of jobs to the area.

According to city officials the purpose of the meeting is to educate job seekers and generate support for the project within the community.

The Georgia Department of Corrections says they will announce the recipient of the contract early next month.
