The Houston County school system is teaming up with the Houston County district attorney's office to crack down on people attending the wrong schools. Officials say they suspect hundreds of families have filed false information about where they live. The district attorney's office says taxpayers are getting "fleeced" by people who live outside the county and those who are zoned for other schools within Houston County.
They've also provided a way for citizens to turn in those they suspect of attending the wrong schools anonymously, via the internet. They are giving parents until the end of next week to correct their information. After that they plan to go after and prosecute those found guilty. They could face up to five years in prison and 1-thousand dollars in fines.
