It will be interesting to see how Spain Park rebounds from losing its head coach after a “physical incident” at practice on Tuesday. Head coach David Shores was put on administrative leave and will be replaced in the interim by offensive line coach and assistant head coach Ben Berguson. The incident was apparently between Shores and a player. “As of right now, we did have some allegations yesterday at a football practice at Spain Park of a physical altercation between a player and Coach Shores,” said Gaston. This is bad news for the Jaguars, who were favored to defeat Grayson on Saturday in the Progressive Football Challenge. Now, the Rams, who are coming off a tough 13-10 loss to Kell, may have a chance to pull the upset. … Speaking of the “PFC”, North Gwinnett will look to defeat Bob Jones of Madison, Ala., for the second year in a row. However, last year’s game was a scrimmage played at the “Madison Bowl” in Alabama. Madison is a suburb of Huntsville for those who are curious. Bob Jones will feature one of the top 10 seniors in the state in Collins Moore, who has committed to Ole Miss. John Stallworth, famous Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, lives in Madison. … The Tucker-Southwest DeKalb game matches two of the most successful teams in the state in recent history. However, the two programs have each won only one state title since 1972 and have combined for three all time. Nevertheless, Tucker and SWD are staples in the top 10 rankings and the playoffs. Last year, SWD won (not a big surprise) 26-0 (definitely surprising) over the Tigers. Four big-time blue chippers are playing in this game as UGA commit Chris Sanders, Auburn commit Justin Garrett and Stanford commit James Vaughters suit up for Tucker while FSU pledge Terrence Smith will suit up for SWD. ... Westminster-St. Pius seems like it should be a major rivalry amongst two of Atlanta’s oldest and most prominent private high schools. However, the two have met just 25 times, with the Golden Lions taking only three of them. In fact, the Wildcats have taken 16 of the past 17 meetings, although the schools haven’t faced each other since 1999. … Perennial metro powers Stephenson and Parkview will meet tonight in the Big Orange Jungle. The two have only met once previously, in the 2005 playoffs when the Jaguars won 20-14. Stephenson DT Khali Jenkins was ruled academically ineligible for the season earlier this week. … Buford OL Vadal Alexander will not be available for tonight’s game against Gainesville due to an illness.
