The federal government shutdown continues this morning.

Our Working guy says compromising in Congress, like in any workplace, has to be about putting yourself in the other person’s shoes.

“You should seek to understand, not to be right,” said Brandon Smith, a workplace consultant who teaches about communication and workplace culture. “We should be seeking to understand the other person’s perspective. Get curious. Learn more about why they view it that way.”

Smith offers lessons on compromise from the government shutdown that we can all take into work on this week’s Working on GPB Radio.
