Ed Week Jan. 14 2013 Gallup Poll Report: Student Engagement Drops by Grade

Can you imagine if the reports we read were the reverse? To wake up and read "Student Engagement at an All Time High?" -- and the way our schools would be then as a place to run to? I dream for this day!

This morning I am thinking about how I wish all middle and high schools had the same open sense of discovery for students when they walk through the doors as did when they walked through their pre-school and early elementary doors. Stations, self-selected activity, all driven by discovery.

The recent Gallup Poll unfortunately reports the reverse situation -- and their graph says it all -- I am just determined to make major strides toward reversing this. Together, with so many others (like you most likely!) working hard all around us toward this same goal - then certainly we will! We must!

So I breathe in deep a sense of hope on this chilly, so wonderful Atlanta morning, and get ready for a meeting of minds with a colleague from out of town and keep building!

Read for yourself -- and maybe find your own new determination to do something new, if even just one thing, to help our middle and high school students enjoy a sense of discovery this next week!

We can reverse this! WE CAN! http://thegallupblog.gallup.com/2013/01/the-school-cliff-student-engage…
