Seven defending state basketball champions are in the field when the Georgia High School Association hosts the annual Ralph Swearngin Championships this week at the Macon Coliseum.

The four-day competition includes championships for boys and girls teams in the GHSA’s eight classifications, as well as the AAASP Wheelchair division, girls and coed 3-point contests and the slam dunk contest.

Returning boys champions in the field are Alexander (6A), Kell (5A), Sandy Creek (3A) and Westside-Augusta (2A). Returning girls champions are Hebron Christian (3A), Mount Paran Christian (2A) and St. Francis (Class A Division I).

The Westside boys and Mount Paran girls are going for their third straight championship.

There is even a state championship rematch. Kell and Eagle’s Landing will meet in the 5A final for the second straight year. Kell won last year’s game 61-53.

All the games will be streamed on the NFHS Network. An additional subscription is required.
