Colquitt County High School is the No. 2 team in the GPB Sports Class 7A rankings and clinched the 2023 Region 1 title with a 44-28 win over rival Valdosta. The Packers have been rolling over opponents this season, averaging 46 points per game. Part of their success on offense comes from senior leaders Ny Carr and Landen Thomas.

Carr boasts a 4-star rating and is the No. 11 wide receiver in the country and the No. 7 overall player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite. He plans to play for Miami next season, after previously being committed to Georgia. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound speedster is a great get for the Hurricanes and is a threat to score anytime he touches the football.

Thomas is also a 4-star prospect and rated the No. 3 tight end in the country and No. 8 overall player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite. Like Carr, he had verbally committed to the Dawgs but decided to flip to Florida State. He’s 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds and shows great versatility as both a pass catcher and a blocker.

Find out more about these seniors, their recruiting processes and how they made their decisions in an interview with GPB’s Hannah Goodin:

The University of Georgia continues to load its offensive line for 2024 and landed another force in Walton offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun. Even though his dad played for Alabama, the Dawgs have been after Calhoun since he was in eighth grade. UGA was the first to offer Calhoun and it doesn’t hurt that Athens is only an hour drive from his home in Marietta. He chose the Dawgs over Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn and Texas.
