Wasn’t it just mid-July…???

I say that because, like all of you, I would have sworn up and down that we just started looking at teams chasing after the 2015 GHSA Championships- and there were a LOT of great stories out there for the season…

We took a look at them through the “Jon’s Georgia” and “Backroads and Backfields” segments during the “Football Fridays in Georgia” this year…

We got to go to places like Eastman, Manchester, Valdosta, Homerville, Moultrie, Roberta, Fort Valley, Brunswick, Ashburn, Kingsland, Rochelle, Louisville, Tifton, Fitzgerald, and a lot of places in between…

First, I would like to thank all the schools, coaches, administrators, and players that we caught up with this season who gave their time in situations where we come into town at a high rate of speed, slam on the brakes of the GPB Van, pour out of a car, throw a microphone in some folk’s faces, shoot some practice, and turn around to get back home- on a weekly basis.

We got to see towns through the prism of all of you- and we couldn’t be more grateful for your time.

We got to go to Moultrie this year- and that was a special treat. Being able to see how the folks in Colquitt County wrap themselves around their incredibly successful football team- and being in the town square the afternoon of the Valdosta game at the “Hawg Pen” to be as welcomed as we were- is something that will always be special to all of us. For me, I will never forget your kindness (and the fries we ate at The Square on The Square”).

So, how did Moultrie get to 30-0… Here’s their tough contest with Roswell that aired on GPB.

So, are they the best team in the country…???

Jake Wallace asked head coach Rush Propst the question after their win in the 6A title game. They have to chase the likes of Bishop Gorman (Nevada), Corona Centennial in southern California, and Allen (Texas) for that top spot.

And I STILL have no idea why Colquitt QB Chase Parrish is only getting looked at by Division I-A schools.

No clue… whatsoever…

I give both teams in 5A a lot of credit for making it to the final- Glynn Academy and Allatoona. Terrors head coach Rocky Hidalgo got the team there in two years and Gary Varner has been the only head coach the school has ever had. The Bucs would get their first-ever title.

Kim Sears has the abridged look, thanks to our friends at WSAV.

Quad-A was a battle of Number one and Number two as Cartersville held off Buford. Triple-A was the game of the weekend as Westminster won their first title since the Carter Administration in beating Blessed Trinity in overtime. Double-A gave Pace Academy their first title over Fitzgerald (as they chased their first title since 1948) and in single-A Clinch County survived their match-up over region rival Irwin and ELCA avenged their loss to Mount Paran last year with a win over Aquinas this year.

Here’s my question Dear Reader:

Which of the seven title games was the most surprising to you with its end result…???

Thanks to all of you for being a part of “Football Fridays” this year. We’re already planning for 2016!

Play it safe, everyone… National Signing Day is just around the corner…
