The Locust Grove baseball team is in the midst of another stellar season. Last year, the Wildcats posted a 25-5 record and made it to the Sweet 16 of the GHSA playoffs. Eight seniors graduated from that team but the Wildcats have not missed a beat. Locust Grove is now 15-1 on the season, 10-0 in region play and 6-0 at home. Not to mention, a 15-game winning streak has momentum on the Cats' side. Coach Stephen Phillips credits the dedication of his players. “Guys have come in and worked very hard in the offseason," Coach Phillips said. A couple pitchers are leading the way. Senior Tyler Sellers has pitched 25 innings and given up just two earned runs while striking out 35 and sophomore Ethan Lindow, a big 6-3 lefthander, has thrown 17 innings, allowing just three earned runs, while whiffing 32 batters. Offensively, sophomore Colton Bailey is leading the way at the plate, hitting a sizzling .458 with 13 RBI and only one strikeout, while Tyler Sellers is hitting .315 with four homers and 17 RBI. Locust Grove High School is just in its sixth year of existence so the Wildcats have come a long way in just a short time. Coach Phillips has been here since the beginning and says that the credit for the team’s success should go to the great coaching staff and players who have worked so hard. The Wildcats have seven more regular season games to play as they look forward to a post season run once again.
