GPB Sports had a fantastic week covering the GHSA Boys and Girls High School Basketball Championships in Macon, Georgia. So many great games, so much emotion, so much excitement, so much drama. The action tipped off on Thursday with the Girls 1A public school championship. It was a historic game, a historic win, and a historic championship, as Taylor County became the first school in the state to win 11 state titles in girls basketball. In the boys 1A public school game, Calhoun County edged Greenville 84-82 on a DaJohn Williams game winning hoop with two seconds to play. In the Girls 4A title game, Buford edged Carrollton by the narrowest of margins, 35-34. While in Boys 4A Jonesboro won back to back titles by getting by the Carrollton boys, 55-50. So that was a terrific start to the tournament, and it just got better. On Friday in the Girls 2A title game, Wesleyan won its 11th title, matching Taylor County, by beating Holy Innocents’ 45-31. In the Boys 2A finals, Seminole County slipped by Crawford County, 76-71 behind the outstanding effort of Jordan Harris who scored 41 points, and added 11 rebounds, 6 steals, 4 assists and 1 block. He will be playing in a couple years for Mark Fox at the University of Georgia. In the 5A girls game, Stephenson beat Mays 65-56 behind the 14 points of Terrianna Cave. In the Boys 5A game, Brunswick won its first ever title, besting Allatoona 49-32. But the trophy ceremonies didn't stop there...On Saturday, the St. Francis boys and girls teams pulled off the boy-girl daily double, exciting Eagle Nation with two championship wins. In the 3A girls game, Laney beat Beach 70-55 behind the 24 points and 19 rebound effort of Aliyah Collier and on the boy's side, a jam-packed Macon Coliseum watched Jenkins eak by defending champion Morgan County 62-60. In the highest classification, the Lady Indians of McEachern won back-to-back titles. It took an overtime period for McEachern to edge Norcross, 58-51. And in the final, possibly wildest game of the tournament, Wheeler slipped past Pebblebrook 59-58 on a pair of free throws by Jaylen Brown with 0.5 seconds left on the clock. All in all, championship weekend could not have been more thrilling. The March to Macon once again provided plenty of fascinating storylines and hard-fought victories. As always, GPB Sports couldn't be more proud to have brought it home to all of you, LIVE, into your living rooms.
